1. Biomedical application of new gentamicin-based formulation(s) against osteomyelitis infection.
Student need to have good understanding of bone physiology and microbial infection and has basics in microbial culture. Student will work on a new gentamicin-based formulation to test against several strains of microbes related to osteomyelitis using bacteria cultures. There will also be opportunity to work on bacterial biofilm assays, PCR and chromatographic studies.

2. Cell culture study on osteoblast cell line using new gentamicin-based formulation(s).
Student with previous experience in cell culture is highly recommended to apply, although those without prior exposure could also be considered and will be given relevant training. Student is expected to perform cytotoxicity studies using several different assays, employ staining techniques (including fluorescent staining), and use PCR or chromatography techniques to conclude the study.

GENERAL NOTE:
(a) Student will be part of a multidisciplinary research group and hence will be able to gain knowledge beyond microbial infection and cell culture, receive training in various other techniques, attend professional courses and acquire access to facilities at IIUM Indera Mahkota and Jalan Hospital campuses.
(b) Student who wishes to pursue a PhD in osteomyelitis- and gentamicin- related study is also encouraged to establish contact and discuss possibilities to do in vivo studies or clinical-based studies within the same multidisciplinary team.
(c) Student with CGPA 3.0 and above ONLY will be considered for this application.
